Laconia is the oldest motorcycle event in the US that started with a few hundred riders gathering at Weirs Beach in 1916. As the gathering continued over the next 7 years and the amount of racing and hill climbs grew in 1923 the Federation of American Motorcyclists (now the AMA) recognized the Laconia motorcycle rally as an official Gypsy Tour event.
